The 63rd FMY once more puts Yecla and the Region of Murcia at the heart of the furniture sector

Under the slogan ‘I sit, sometimes I sense’, the regional president opens up an edition which is once again committed to innovation, contract and internationalisation

‘A FAIR GROUNDED IN TRADITION, INNOVATION AND DESIGN’

The president of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras, the president of Yecla Furniture Fair (FMY) Executive Committee and Yecla’s mayoress, Remedios Lajara; and FMY’s director, Juan Miguel Zornoza, among other authorities, have inaugurated this morning FMY’s 63rd edition. The fair opens its doors to put Yecla and the Region of Murcia at the heart of the furniture, timber and related industries sector.

Under the slogan ‘I sit, sometimes I sense’, Yecla’s event gets underway with more than 90 firms, 17,000 m² of exhibition space and an agenda that focuses on contract, with the International Contract Day and Paolo Mauri’s masterclass, as well as on innovation, with various presentations and the presence of Furniture and Wood Technology Centre (CETEM). The event will also focus on commercial activity through the participation of the sector’s international delegations from Hungary, Poland, Ukraine, England, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, France, Italy, Morocco and Switzerland.

The regional president and the president of FMY’s Executive Committee, together with other authorities—including the Regional Minister for Enterprise, Employment and Social Economy, Marisa López Aragón; members of the regional government; regional MPs; Yecla Municipal Corporation representatives; and executives from furniture industry associations and organisations— have explored the exhibition site and visited the participating firms.

THE FMY ‘ONE OF MURCIA’S GREAT BUSINESS AND SOCIAL LANDMARKS’

The regional president, Fernando López Miras, who has defined the Yecla Furniture Fair ‘as one of Murcia’s great business and social landmarks’, has highlighted the importance the furniture sector represents for Murcia’s economy. ‘A sector that increasingly believes and invests in R&D&I’ to remain ‘an international benchmark in all markets for design, quality, comfort and sustainability’.

In fact, according to López Miras, the furniture sector is creating nearly 8,000 jobs in the region, ‘almost 8,000 opportunities for Murcian families’, figures that represent 11% of employment in the industrial sector at the regional level. In addition, in the first quarter of 2025, furniture exports have increased by 12%, reaching almost 40 million euros.

The regional president stressed that over the past five years, his government has invested more than 14 million euros in the furniture sector, ‘which has generated more than 50 million euros in investment. It is a sector that works, it is a sector of the past, of identity, of tradition, but also, most importantly, it is a sector of the future’. ‘It has everything to remain one of the main economic and job creation pillars in the Murcia Region, and the regional government is going to stand alongside this sector,’ he concluded.

For her part, FMY’s Executive Committee President and Yecla’s Mayoress, Remedios Lajara, highlighted the three words defining the event: ‘trajectory, creation and passion’. ‘A fair backed by its history and the weight of the Yecla cluster in the sector as well as by a reality that defines Yecla and its companies: creating with passion.’

‘From there an inseparable pairing was born—Yecla and Furniture— which has overcome all kinds of circumstances and today is projected to the world with greater strength. It does so with proximity, professionalism and commitment, based on clear objectives to show quality products, create synergies and turn meetings into real opportunities. All of this is grounded in tradition, innovation, design and sustainability,’ underlined the mayoress.

Finally, she wanted to point out the institutional support, ‘key to continuity and success’: on the one hand, the ‘historic’ commitment of the Yecla City Council, on the other hand, the Regional Government’s support, through the Institute for Development of the Region of Murcia (INFO), reinforcing the international projection of the sector. ‘This support has been materialised these days in the 2nd International Contract Conference, and the largest trade mission in recent years, with more than 30 professionals from 11 countries,’ she added.

AGENDA

At 4:30 p.m., in the Leisure/Business Space, the training activities of this 63rd edition will begin with an interesting talk given by ENAE Business School on Artificial Intelligence and other technological processes, with the aim of boosting companies through process automation, generation and robots. And at 6 p.m., after the jury’s deliberation, the winner of this year’s FMY Best Stand Award will be announced.

Along with that day’s events, visitors can already enjoy the exhibition ‘Crafts of the Region of Murcia’—promoted by the Directorate General for the Promotion of Trade, Business Innovation, Industries and Craft Trades— which will remain open throughout the contest in the hall of the Yecla Furniture Fair.
